Endgames (Newsprints #2), Volume 2 by Ru Xu
3.0
The sequel that picks up directly after "NewsPrints" with the same vibrant and flowing art but a much more muddled story.
The focus in the first novel is the relationship between Blue and Crow, which managed to clearly articulate how war consumes even children with Crow as a literal weapon of mass destruction. It allowed time for Blue to become our focusing point in this mashup of 1940's and fairytales. However, their relationship and Blue herself takes a backseat to the overarching plot of the war and the imperialist politics behind it. A fair ending to the journey but not a stand alone work, as all the heavy lifting and character sketching was really laid out in the first graphic novel.
