Omega Awakening by L.V. Lane
3.0

This was fine, a decent story that kept my attention enough for me to finish. However, I wasn’t invested - in characters or plot. Woodrow is unlikeable, even for a broody Alpha, and he tends to feel stale for lack of supporting characters. Verity is better, but doesn’t have a consistent defiant badassery to her that I would prefer. TBH Lilly is the best character and has the most interesting backstory; I’d read more if only for her. I also don’t really get the Cinderella vibe other than the mean step mother and losing a shoe. That isn’t even Cinderella - she’s meant to actually like the man and want to find him again, but instead, he’s a jerk and also old?? The age gap was weird.

I was also consistently frustrated and cringing at the repeated “lessons” theme. It’s redundant, in a bad way. It’s like there’s an attempt at being deep and ethereal, but it feels so forced and out of place in the pace of the writing and story. Ugh.

Plus, there’s only one decentish sex scene, and it’s during the time before our characters like each other, so one feel conflicted reading it. Otherwise, the heat is very low throughout. And very D/s, which isn’t out of place in omegaverse themes, but, again, paints conflicting views of “is she a sub or is it assault” and “do we like him or hate him”. Just, too muddy to be that great.
