A Woman in Berlin: Eight Weeks in the Conquered City: A Diary by Marta Hillers

5.0

I'm aware of the history that goes along with the time period, we've all studied at one point or another; however, this was something more than I had expected. Our teacher had given us a warning, he told us that it would be intense in some parts and it might not be in taste for some of us, not that what this story holds should be in taste for anyone, but some of us can handle the contents better than others.

The way the woman tells her story, how she is able to even express herself and what is around her so perfectly without giving so much away to tell who she actually is amazing. I picture her as someone stunning. I felt as if I was there with her at times, watching these terrible events unfold around her and witness the horrible things that happen to her. I found myself teared up, longing that I could tell her it would okay.

I believe if you are the type that enjoys history, can handle some pretty harsh things, and actually may want to learn a bit more about WWII after Hitler's rule fell, this is perfect.
