Broken Vessels: Essays by Andre Dubus

4.0

As I began this book, I was worried I would be reading another twentieth-century male author with a big ego. Yet as the essays progressed, I saw less and less of this feared ego and more and more of the humbled man who would end this book.

The final essay is by far the most beautiful and heartbreaking, but I feel as though it wouldn't be as powerful without the essays leading to it, developing the image of this man. It is not a perfect book by any means, but it was well worth reading to cry through the last several pages.
