Prodigal by Rektok Ross

3.0

Rektok Ross shares the poignant story of a young girl dealing with difficult family relationships, finding new friends, accepting first loves, and coming to terms with her mother's illness that brings her to a new school for her senior year of high school. Within the first few pages, I made a connection with Lexy, the high school aged protagonist, and I had a desire to see how her story would develop and resolve. There are multiple supporting characters that are nicely developed and enrich Lexy's story, along with a completely realistic amount of drama to pull you through the text at a fast and comfortable pace. I was not always happy with the decisions of several of my favorite characters, but they were, like Lexy, trying to find their own way in the world. Prodigal is a Christian Fiction, however, the Christianity does not overwhelm or become preachy. Lexy's story remains the focus and Prodigal is an enjoyable read that you will not want to put down.
