Guards! Guards!: The Graphic Novel by Stephen Briggs, Graham Higgins, Terry Pratchett

3.0

Pratchett's satyrical Discworld shouts to be adapted to the graphic novel format. Higgins and Briggs did an okay job with it. The drawings reflect the tone of Pratchett's books & Pratchett readers will quickly feel at home.
However, there were a few issues. I hadn't read the novel Guards! Guards!, and I found it hard in several scenes to understand what was happening - usually when events were pictured but not supported by text (e.g. when Wonse and the Patrician face off on p. 102). I also felt that while the action of the story was well rendered, the underlying philosophical points were not communicated as well. The art did the job, but I can't say that I admired it.
Overall, this is a good way to catch up on Pratchett when you don't feel like reading through 41 thick novels but a few things got lost in translation.
