In Paper Son, we see (beautiful illustrations) and read about the story of Tyrus Wong as a Chinese American Immigrant and the several hardships he had to face. As he grew, he embraced the skill of art in both American & Chinese styles. As a result, he was responsible for the creation of Disney's Bambi, yet never received the appropriate recognition. (Something I just learned when reading this book.)
This book gives us a lot to talk about with students of any age. Several discussion points can be chosen as we look into the biography of Tyrus: immigration, representation, art, americanization, and much more.
