Ghost Ship by Diane Carey

4.0

It is fascinating as an artifact, not just of 1987, but of writing about the series from the writer's bible before it debuted, and not from what actually would happen on the show. There are many things in here which would be off-putting if one did not know the backstory of the creation of this novel. It would be very easy to make the minor edits to the story to bring it in line with canonical notions and still be a very solid story. Once again, Carey shows he love of sailing and the sea in how she frames the narrative of the story.
