I wanted to like this more than I did. The world building is amazing and the characters are  well-drawn, but there’s very little plot or character development. Things just seem to happen to the characters—they try to influence their surroundings, and sometimes they’re successful, but it also felt inexplicable when their plans worked out and when they don’t. It’s also very slowly paced. I don’t anticipate reading the sequel.
