Mother Knows Best by Kira Peikoff
5.0

Wow this book was amazing. I was sucked into the story right away and devoured it in a day because I couldn't put it down!

The story starts by being told alternating between mother, Clare and daughter, Abby then a third story joins in told by Jillian. The book is full of family secrets and drama with twists and turns along the way!

The story starts off with Claire a mother who passes along a genetic defect to her children, she had a son but he passed away due to the mitochondrial disease. Claire and her husband now long to have another and will go to extremes to make sure the baby is healthy. She discovers a doctor who is working with a scientist to create the perfect embryo from three genetic parents. However it is currently illegal to complete such a process. So Claire confronts the doctor about such process behind her husband's back. When he finds out is where it gets interesting. Claire goes on the run and into hiding 8 months pregnant. She ends up giving birth to "frankenbaby" raising her away from authorities until the child is 11 when even more craziness, twists and turns come. You'll have to read it yourself top find out what happens.

I thought the premise of the book was so interesting with the scientific aspects that you don't normally see in a thriller. I really felt for Claire, the mother, that lost her only child only to long for another and the despair she felt knowing she would pass along her genetic traits. I loved the crazy, obsessive, unethical female protagonist. It was a very interesting take on a thriller, I will definitely keep an eye out for Kira Peikoff in the future.

I want to thank crooked lane books for sending me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
