Pilgrims Progress in Today's English by John Bunyan, James Thomas

3.0

I have to say I would definitely lean towards Tolkien’s beliefs on allegories vs Cs Lewis.

Now let me start off with saying I didnt dislike this book. I didn’t love it. It was meh. I’m glad I read it since it is such a talked about classic among my peers.

The reason I didn’t like it was because I doubt it repetitive and simplistic. Which was relatively common at the time it was written. It’s certainly no eragon style adventure with “danger” at every turn. It was very clear where the allegorical references were coming from. It was almost off putting how much each reference takes you out of the story. That in turn made it hard to connect with the characters and become invested in the plot.

In conclusion I would not read pilgrims progress again but would recommend that everyone read it from an educational stand point.
