Were some of the characters dealing with a grandiose view of themselves? Yup. Were some of the characters dealing with some crazy internalize misogyny? Oh yeah. Was some of it a little pretentious? Sure. Am I going to read the next book to figure out what the hell is happening? You bet your ass I am.
