I Remember You by Cathleen Davitt Bell

5.0

But Lucas, the memory of him, the memory of who I was when I was with him, it was always there. I said I would never forget. And I didn't. Lucas: I remember you.

I loved this. I am not sure that this is for everyone, there is a certain mystical/fantasy element that you just have to buy into, which is central to the plot but this worked for me. I loved Juliet's voice and my favorite thing was that this story is told by Juliet as an adult looking back on her 16 year old self, knowing she will never feel this exact way again. The story is told like a memory, some parts in excruciating detail and some parts fuzzy and disjointed. The heart racing feelings of first love are caputred so beautifully. Juliet acknowledges her own mistakes as she looks back on all of the warning signs she ignored.

While reading this I was afraid that it would be sad in over minipulated way, espically with all the comparisons to The Time Traveler's Wife but it broke my heart in a completely ordinary way.

I absolutely loved this.
