Overview

You may have heard of the Mediterranean diet, the heart-healthy eating pattern based on the traditional cuisines of countries bordering its titular body of water.

So why not try out a Mediterranean reading diet by reading one book (fiction or non-fiction) set in each country located along the Mediterranean Sea?

Ideally, you'll choose a book set in each particular country by an author born in that country. If that's not possible, your choice should be at least partially set in each country. As long as you can make a good argument for a book's inclusion under a particular country's prompt, it counts.

Even more ideally, you'll choose a book set in a locale on or near the Mediterranean or its marginal seas like the Adriatic or the Aegean although this is not strictly required.

Lastly, match books set in historical states that encompassed several present-day countries with the present-day country where the action takes place. For example, a book set in the city of Beirut will always fit under Lebanon, no matter whether the book takes place during Beirut's Phoenician, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Arab, Crusader, Ottoman, or French colonial eras.

Prompts are ordered around the Mediterranean in a vaguely counter clockwise motion starting at Morocco and ending at Spain and can be completed in any order.
