This was…darker than I was expecting it to be. It deals with so many different topics that it was almost to much, but also I kind of wished that some of them were explored more. I loved the complexity that this manga was able to develop in such a short time. From seeing Kasumi and Kyousuke’s friendship develop, to seeing them ripped apart by their own inability to see themselves as good enough for the other, to finally finding their way back together. It was a heartbreaking roller coaster of emotions.

I think the only real objection that I had for this manga, was that the first sex scene felt like it came out of nowhere. There wasn’t any buildup or anything. But that might just be a me problem?

Anyway! This was a really good, emotionally charged read. It had some of the best mutual pining, angsty goodness that I could have asked for in a manga. There Are Things I Can’t Tell You is getting a four out of five stars.

TW: homofobia internalizada, pensamientos suicidas, infidelidad.

Lamentablemente, "There Are Things I Can't Tell You", no es ese libro.

TW: internalized homophobia, some dialogue indicating suicidal ideation, infidelity.

It's painfully obvious that the yaoi genre it's not my type of manga anymore. This cover looked great and the blurb was interesting but... it didn't work for me.

Let's start with the good things. The art is incredible, very stylish. Each character with dialogue is distinguishable, the clothes and hairstyles are well thought out for each one. Art is definitely the highest point in the book.

Plot-wise, there are a few things that I really liked. And I mean, I really really liked: how the main relationship evolved felt very organic, how the internalized homophobia was handled, and a few work situations that were treated well.

That being said, this manga feels generic and forgettable. The pacing was very weird and the level of angst between our MC was mishandled -the "I love you" and "No you don't" can work only a few times-.

In the same way that some situations were handled carefully, others were just there to make the story more convoluted and added nothing to the plot (as a side note, the sex scenes came out of nowhere, I felt it was added to capture an older audience but affected the pacing and added absolutely nothing).

I will probably try another manga by this author for the art but other than that I’ve read enough BL romance to say that this was way too cliche.
