What an issue! I was absolutely blown away by the New Voice Fiction in this one. Carrie Grinstead and Ashley Whitaker are authors who I will chase down in future table of contents. Wow, read these if nothing else in the collection. Catherine Lacey had a nice story, combining surrealism and hotels (both things I liked), but something about the weight of the story seemed off. Similarly, the Ursula K. Le Guin piece wasn't sticking with me. I wasn't very drawn in by the characters (and man did I want to see more of that 2001 obelisk). Throughout, the poetry was strong—real good!—and I loved the chiropractor and chartreuse essay. This issue's Lost & Found fell short for me.

Connection: I work for Tin House Books! That means last week I helped Thomas, Lance, Cheston, India, and fuckin' everyone else at the Magazine at the Summer Workshop. I know the graphic designers of this issue and I'm coworkers with the whole crew. Sorry if that biases my review, but I honestly do love Tin House. That's why I took an unpaid internship.

Also, Abbey Mei Otis is one of the professors in my CRWR department at Oberlin College.

Tin House always hits the right notes, but Teddy Macker's poem "The Anesthesia of Abstraction" is particularly gorgeous.
