i like a lot of this, but other bits.... not so much. on the positive side, i think romana's characterisation as president is really interesting and has a lot of potential to be a deeply complex exploration of personhood ans politics, and whether the two can ever coexist. and her foil in leela is equally interesting, and i really love their dynamic. also the idea of a conference in time, and the groundhog day timeloop is something i always adore, especially in direct relation to time lord politics. however, the depictions of sex workers were crude to say the least, and it felt like they were only there for the sake of shoehorning something that could never happen on the show rather than actually doing something interesting with the concept. also, the choice to give leela an almost puritanical view of sex and sex work to me just doesn't sit right: in many ways she is innocent, but she is also not stupid, and giving her one liners about why other characters don't have any clothes on just feels like an insult to her intelligence. she would know full well what's happening and what she is being forced to do, and her outrage should have stemmed from that rather than of a speedrun realisation. so yeah, good story, interesting choices, excited to see where this goes.

features Leela going undercover as an exotic dancer at a summit of the Time Lords and their fellow time-travelling powers; it also has the gimmick of certain scenes being repeated due to a time loop.[return][return](Review of whole first Gallifrey series at http://nhw.livejournal.com/838410.html)

From a political thriller to a murder mystery. This one feels a little more contrived than the season opener, but still fun.
The ending is a little clunky, I think.

Leela goes undercover as an exotic dancer at a time summit gone wrong, while Romana works behind the scenes to find the real culprit. I'm not a big fan of Groundhog Day stories where things get endlessly repeated and this one was no exception.
