I started this collection thinking, "You know, Phillip Lopate is still alive and I'm sheltering in place... Maybe I'll send him an email when I've finished. Maybe he'd email back." Having finished the book, I'm not so sure I want to email him. He's a good writer, but certainly comes off as a petty and self-centered person. Couldn't make heads or tails of his film criticism.
