An absolute favorite from my childhood, and I am glad to have seen it holds up still.

I think I just expected too much from this one. And it was my first Hiaasen, so I have no idea whether this is up to par with his other stuff. There was just a lot of (too much?) suspending disbelief for me
Spoiler Wahoo is able to learn how to experly drive an airboat within 15 minutes of learning? Really?
. The writing is really good as is the characterization but I feel like Hiaasen was telling me what these characters were like a lot. Fun, but (for me) nothing special.

We listened to this while on a road trip and it was absolutely hilarious and very enjoyable. On a less positive note, I found the mix of absurd farce with the darker story about child abuse to be a slightly uncomfortable mix.

always fun to read. Hoot is still my favorite but this is a close second.

Another environmentally conscious, mildly humorous, dynamic characters centered children’s read by Mr. Hiaasen. Very pleasant to read via audiobook but recommended for older kids because of content like characters getting shot and some more nuanced humor.

A funny Hiassen novel with the usual bit of environmental activism. Wahoo and his father Mickey work with wildlife in South Florida, where they have several animals they sometimes rent to television/film productions. Currently, Wahoo's mother is working in China trying to earn money as Mickey's concussion has reduced his income and they are in danger of losing their property. Enter the reality show Expedition Survival, with its egomaniacal star Derek Badger, who pay Mickey and Wahoo for their services. Many many things go wrong, and it actually gets a bit tense when the abusive father Tuna, who has taken refuge with Wahoo and Mickey, shows up with a gun. All's well that ends well, and this does.
