I didn't really get a "love story" out of this. There's really no meat to this story and not enough on-page relationship development to justify the "I love you"s at the end. Other than Robert/Bobby being a complete a-hole in the entire book with his foot-in-mouth disease, the other characters were pretty flat, even though I liked Charlie. And Robert's hang-ups about Charlie's bisexuality really made me not like him. His ex-cheated on him with another man, but it's somehow different if Charlie cheated with a woman? Okay.

Also, if you're not a fan of your MCs having on-page sex with other characters, this book may not be for you.

I immediately forgot what happened as soon as I finished this book.

There’s that old adage that says you can never go home again. Well, we have a plethora of cozy romances that would like to disagree, and this is one of them. Having traveled back to his hometown for his mother’s funeral, Robert is reminded of all the reasons he left his small town Arizona childhood for New York City, but captures his bits of nostalgia, however few they were. One of those bits was the bit of a crush he had on Charlie, the sheriff’s son, and current sheriff, who almost immediately starts up their friendship. Charlie is a pretty awesome character overall - he’s fairly recently divorced, has a young daughter who lives with her mother, and pretty obviously (to the reader at least) definitely feels something for Robert. Robert is an interestingly flawed character - having been cheated on by his ex, he’s now terrified that Charlie, who is bi, would cheat on him. It’s a huge deal for him, and incredibly offensive to Charlie, and forms the basis of the main angst for the story. Overall it’s a solid story with interesting characters, actual angst, and a distinct lack of insta-fix for the romance (which I definitely appreciate).
