There were some references to the first one of the series, so I probably should have gone back and glanced at Conviction. The first book was just so good that I think the other books paled in comparison for me.

Despite this book being a sequel, I felt like the characters we met in 'Conviction' actually regress in their wit, personal growth, and likability. Anna is incomprehensible to me. I guess old habits die hard and running away from her problems is a big habit for Anna. It was frustrating to never see her actually having to face her fears (i.e the conversation with her daughter about her past). This book also felt like it tried to be too many things and tried to tie in too many real-life events to weave an honestly mid story.
