One recipe which is a great one- people were still talking about it over a year later- simple, delicious, and vegetarian. Cumin salted carrots!

Great household staples, but not things I would go to all the time. Lentil soup was a winner though!

The slimmest of volumes, cashing in on her fame (the degree of which has always baffled me), but not worthy to be included with all the other books out now about homemade ingredients. Some require ridiculously heard-to-get ingredients for the extremely over-privileged. Nepotism accounts for the little illustrations by her daughter, fine but no better than anyone else's.

Alice, I love you, but I'm not making any of this stuff.

I rather enjoyed this slim collection. I'm not much of a cook but read this for Seattle Public Library's book bingo challenge.

I've read quite a bit of Alice Waters over the years and have found that her cookbooks can feel a bit repetitive (chez panisse vegetables) or too much for the home cook (chez panisse menu cookbook). This one is spot on for true simplicity and home cooked staple recipes. Illustrations by her daughter were lovely as well.

An interesting read with lots of unusual recipes. I would not purchase this one due to the fact that my family would not eat many of the recipes.

Short and sweet. I don’t know how much of this I’ll be able to use in my own kitchen, but it gave me some wonderful ideas and goals, and her lyrical writing and the beautiful illustrations make it worth a read.
