Well, reading this book was an experience, like having the best sex. Really, there is more sex than story, which would normally turn me away but it was written very well and, well, I couldn't turn away. Super hot shifter meets his mate and they can not keep their thought or hands off each other. Meanwhile somebody is trying to kill her ( this is a small part of the story. LOL

This is the first book about the Breeds that I have read. I didn't realize it was not first in the series but I definitely didn't feel like I was missing any back story. This is about Megan an empath who meets Braden the feline-breed-soldier. Together they need to investigate the strange deaths of two other Breeds and figure out who is after Megan and why. The book sounded good...until I read it. The sex was porn-like and the story was weak. I don’t mind hot sex scenes but these were just not up my ally and the back story was just not that good. The characters got on my nerves; they had strong personalities that were just not that enjoyable. The finally was predictable and I definitely was not satisfied with why the bad guys were after Megan.

I liked this story a lot. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out who "Mark" was, though. I guess the reference was to the mating mark, not a man named Mark. That threw me off. Typical breed book, lots of action, good story.

Another book I picked up because it looked interesting. I'm so glad that I did because this is a fabulous series. Paranormal romance due to the breeds, which were engineered by scientists but when they escaped, the breeds discovered that they have a soul but it needs to be reunited with it's other half, their mate. Could not put this book down and made me want to read every book in this series. Love it!

Megan's Mark was ok and we learn a little more about the Breeds and the genetics council, but it felt like parts of the story did not come together. I enjoyed the action and loved Braden, but I've loved most all of the Breeds we've meet so far. Some of his one-liners were to die for and the snappy repartees where just great. Megan on the other hand was a bit iffy. It's like the author could not decide what to do with her. I did not like her wishy washy way of oh I'm cursed with this empath gift I must live in isolation, but then she's like I want to fight I'm a warrior. Please just make up your mind is all I could keep thinking. I preferred her a warrior and could not stand the whole wishy washy way. Drove me crazy at times.

All and all it was an ok book in the series. Not my favorite, but worth reading just to learn more of what is going on with the Breeds and their enemies.

Picked it up thinking it was 1st in a series and seeing above it's no. 7 & accounts for my ambivalence about the story.

Megan's Mark
4 Stars

Synopsis:
Megan Fields, an empath who has a hard time shielding herself from the emotions of others, finds solace in the peace and quiet of the New Mexico desert until the day she finds the bodies of two breeds. As a sheriff’s deputy, Megan is partnered with Braden Arness, an arrogant feline assassin, in the search for the killers. Megan and Braden clash in every way but must learn to trust each other because someone is out for Megan’s blood.

Review:
Definite improvement in terms of plot and writing over previous books in the series. The sex scenes are still steamy with a capital S but are not as overwhelming as before, more information is provided concerning the Breeds’ life in the labs and the story is more action than character driven.

Nevertheless, the characters are very appealing even if they could be more developed. Megan is a kick butt heroine and is a match to Braden in every way. They are both adrenaline junkies and their extrasensory powers are complimentary. One aspect of Megan’s character that bothered me was her constant rejection of her abilities and Braden’s attempts to help her in this area. While Braden is not my favorite Breed, he is still a super-hot alpha male and he truly cares about Megan. It did annoy me that he was constantly trying to dominate her but she could definitely hold her own against him.

Similar to Elizabeth’s Wolf, the villain is seriously sick and disturbed but once again there is not enough detail regarding his actions and his obsession with Megan as well as his spies at Sanctuary. The final confrontation with him is, however, quite satisfactory.

The character who interests me the most is Jonas and I really want to know more about him, especially following the cliffhanger at the end, which I hope will be developed in the next book.

This is a decent read and from all reports it is all uphill from here.
