It doesn't compare with Wicked. Although I appreciate the grainy texture of the novel, the reader is thrown into it, with all sorts of political and religious movements happening—unless somebody JUST finished reading Wicked, they'll likely be confused or lose interest quickly. It also lacked some of the more philosophical diatribes that I valued in Wicked.

I couldn't find a compelling reason to finish it, but still appreciate Maguire as a writer.

Not as many characters from the original book showed up in this one. Took me a little while to figure out where in the timeline thins took place. But we made it to post-Dorothy times. Probably will check out the next one if I ever find it cheap somewhere

Very slow to get going and kind of aimless, much like the main character. The scenes with Nanny were the only redeeming parts haha

With how sexually graphic Wicked was, it was odd that the scenes coded as queer were so coded and not explicit.

I loved Wicked and was really looking forward to this continuation of the story. Sadly, I did not enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed Wicked. It just didn't seem to have the same magic.
