Nice pacing and suspense. I would have liked if the mystery had a few more clues before the reveal.

I realize why I like this series so much, and it’s because it’s like a criminal minds episode but with way more

One thing I have to say about the Cold Justice series is that it is pretty intense at times. This book was fast paced, full of action, suspense, and danger.

I liked that the characters from the previous books show up in subsequent books. It gives the series a nice sense of continuity, and the reader the opportunity to revisit characters they like.

Max and Scarlett didn't do much for me. Max was kind of rigid and not very open minded. I didn't dislike him, but he also didn't hold much interest for me. Scarlett, I didn't like. She was a genius with absolutely no common sense, no sense of self preservation, and was ridiculously naive. Especially considering that her father was an FBI agent and what happened to him.

Also, the author did try to work it out, and kudos to her for thst, but I still see Angel's plight as mostly Scarlett's fault. Max and Scarlett as a couple were so mild, their relationship was almost inconsequential. I was much happier to see Mallory and Parker.

There was the HEA, but I wish we could have been given more details about the reactions of some of the other players to the final outcome of the case. 3.5 stars.

Working through Toni Anderson’s backlist and the Cold Justice series. I love these romantic suspense books and Anderson is one of my favorite romantic suspense authors. This was an enjoyable third part of the series, but fell a bit short in comparison to the first two books. The espionage plot had a little more action and was more of a political thriller than the first two books. I liked Scarlett’s character and felt drawn to her quest for redemption, but Matt wasn’t my favorite of the male protagonists in the series so far.

Action thrillers and romance lovers know we don’t generally read these for “realism”, after all that’s not what makes these books entertaining 😉 however the romance pacing this book was just a little TOO unrealistic and sudden for me. It didn’t feel organic at all and felt as though it was just dropped in the middle of the plot as a filler.

Absolutely could not put it down...

I am always trying to guess who the bad guy is in these books and am constantly surprised. While enthralled by the suspenseful mystery I also fell for Scarlet and Matt. Scarlet was so smart, fiercely loyal, and determined. Matt was everything an alpha SEAL should be and so much more. But the story was truly brought to life by all of the details that made it seem so real.

Political intrigue, corrupt FBI agents, kidnapping, a wrongful conviction and a budding romance, this book has it all. Scarlett just wants to clear her father's name before the cancer takes his life, she had no idea how her actions would unravel a web of corruption and revel decade old secrets. Matt's boss asked him to attend a Christmas party he was unable to attend and that puts him in the right (or wrong) place to help Scarlett when things get out of hand. There is lots of action in this book but Scarlett gets her Christmas miracle.

RATING: 3 STARS

I rated this book a three but I had a hard time rating this one. This is not a bad series but I am just not feeling the characters or plot. I am going to call it on this series.
