In this novella we meet Christine and Wesley again. A second story following the fall out of William's memory loss, but this time focusing on and told from the perspective of Wesley and Christine. I really like Wesley, I think he is very kind and considerate. But seeing all of Christine's choices this second time round, she comes across as far more shallow and childish. I quite liked Christine in The Forgotten Wife, and I do still like her in this novella, just quite a bit less. All the reasons I thought she was a great character before seemed so changed from this perspective. Rushing to her sister's side after her husband is gravely injured, concocting a ridiculous plan to help bring Catherine and William together again, going into hiding to give them time without interference, arranging for them to dance. In this book becomes rushing to her sister's side while leaving a friend in distress behind and then being unreasonably and childishly upset that Wesley's letter (sent in haste and when circumstances were unclear) wasn't more detailed, thinking her rather risky plan makes her the smartest in all the land, being a spoiled brat and complaining that accomadations aren't to her standards and then putting both her's and Wesley's reputations at risk as well as the entire plan for her sister's and William's happiness, and once again thinking she's just so clever and they never could have done pulled the plan off without her.

I really loved this plot, when told through William and Catherine, but it felt less believable and less endearing told through Wesley and Christine. I did appreciate and admire that Chrisitine was a woman determined to design her own future, that she need not be married to persue her own happiness. Had this novella come before William and Catherine's story, I probably would have enjoyed it more. I just enjoyed The Forgotten Wife so much that this one just couldn't live up to it for me.

Many thanks to Bree Wolf who provided me with a copy of this novella in exchange for an honest review

An Unwelcome Proposal is the fourth book in Bree Wolf’s Forbidden Love series, and it works perfects fine as a standalone novel. Although it works fine as a standalone novel, I do believe I would have understood certain aspects of the story better had I read the prior book.

Although I was new to the characters in this story, I did enjoy watching their romance develop. I wasn’t crazy about this one, but it was a fun quick read. It easily pulled me in, and I was happy to power through the story to see how things developed. It also has me curious about some of the characters we were introduced to in this one, as I want to see how their stories play out.

All in all, this was a fun quick read.
