One of my favourite books, gorgeous writing. A story about familial love, hope, mercy, agony of loss and resilience in the face of defeat and against great odds.

“What a small thing it seems, to walk with the one you love. To look forward to a day with them. I marvel at the simplicity of this moment. And I thank the skies for the miracle of it.”

Wow, with the conclusion of her Ember quartet, Sabaa Tahir, has worked her way to the top of my favorite authors list. Perhaps even right behind Sanderson & Hobb, or maybe even amidst these two.

The whole quartet flows with happiness, hardship, joy, betrayal, loyalty, fear, relief, suffering and above all love.

In A Sky beyond the Storm we are once again joined by our trio of heroes, Laia of Serra, Elias Veturia aka The Soul Catcher or Banu-al-Mauth and Helene Aquilla aka Blood Shrike. The structure remains intact, we watch the story unfold alternating between their points of view.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, which wraps the series up neatly and is fast paced from start to finish. You might think that, it being the 4th book in a series, our characters are fully fleshed out. However each of them still has things to learn, ways to grow, and all three hit that last part of their growth with acceptance. Extremely well done, and I will definitely return to this quartet in the future.

I believe this world Tahir has created still has potential left, and as such I wouldn’t be surprised to see more books in the same world in the future. But if it’s these 4 and nothing more, it’s a neatly wrapped up package, that left me with very questions on what’s what and who’s who.
