3.5!
Truly a mashup of Big Little Lies and Birdbox. Very stressful reading experience!

TL;DR, With Regrets is a novel about the people in the middle of a natural disaster and who they are when push comes to shove. It's slow, but not bad. Just not for me.

Zombie content nowadays have a recurring theme; it's not the monsters which endanger us, but the people we shelter with. The zombie can bite you, sure; but the people can stab you in the back.

With Regrets is the distillation of that concept. In place of a Zombie Plague is dangerous weather of sorts, but the conflict takes place almost entirely within a basement wine cellar. Secrets are revealed, lines are drawn, and the dangers outside pale compared to the dangers within.

Is it a good book? I personally don't think so, but that doesn't mean it's  bad either. It's fine, but I don't think I'd read it again. It's technically science fiction, but the science fiction aspects are very much set dressing. It could as easily be some super hurricane from climate change, or an act of terrorism. Nothing mandates the disaster used.

Ultimately, it's a book that focuses on people  who already dislike each other, and fleshes out why they dislike each other in a realistic way. It's a good story about tense interpersonal relationships at a tense time. It's just not my speed.

This book was okay. I liked the pandemic / global emergency plot but did find many of the characters annoying and hard to sympathize with. The writing wasn’t my personal favorite style, but I can see why others would enjoy.

This was a an interesting story that had moments of outrageous behavior between adults, that weren't quite friends, during a world changing event. At first I felt like I was thrown into a story that had already started. It was difficult to figure out who was who and who they were all married to. The story really took off when "the event" started to happen. After that I found it quite enjoyable.

What is scarier? Suburbs or the end of the world?

I enjoyed this. It was entertaining.
