I really don’t have words for the emotions that I had while listening to this book and frankly still have and I think will carry with me always. This is not the first book or story I’ve read that is about the very recent and very despicable history of Canadian Residential schools, but this one grabbed me and I think maybe has brought this tragedy to a more real place for me. I’m sure I’m not saying this well because I have always been deeply heart broken that this happened. To know that there are/were people on this planet that think/thought it is ok to treat people so horrifically is something I will never be able to come to terms with. I wish to the depth of my soul this world was a safe, fair, and peaceful place for everyone, but it is not, and this story shines a very bright light on a very dark, unfair and unjust experience that is a similar experience for far too many indigenous people.

This story was so well narrated and the writing was amazing. Everyone should read/listen to this.

My friend recommended this book to me and when I read the bavk cover I thought it would be really not up my alley bc I don’t love hockey but I acrually really really really enjoyed this one. LKKE it gave me a new perspective on residential schools and kind of really made me aware of what I didn’t know and how brutal it was. I definitely also felt like I learned a lot abt like a way of life I knew nothing abt and in a way that it was super interesting to me. The author did such a good job of incorporating like teaching abt the past and culture with storytelling and a actual Novel and o spent the entire book being so hooked and not being able to put it down. like I think this book was unlike anything I’ve ever read before and it hit so hard. also somehow I acruakky found hockey interesting which is saying a lot considering how bored I usually am with reading abt sports. I also thought the ending o this one was done super well and I liked how it was almost a reflection and healing but also a commentary on what couldn’t be changed and the unfairness of the mail chatavtzrs situation. Also the build up to his main reallzition in the book was so well done and I really enjoyed reading it.
