Down Among the Sticks & Bones is an exceptionally well written story of two sisters who never learned how to be themselves, but thanks to a magic door, they learn about themselves and who they want to be. This story is about love in all it’s different forms and that no matter what happens, always be your true self.beccaand's review against another edition

"Every choice feeds every choice that comes after, whether we want those choices or no."
What a dark, atmospheric, gothically gruesome little story this was.. and I absolutely devoured it! It has been years since I read the first installment to this series, but that did not take away any of my enjoyment.
The intricate world that McGuire created here is incredible. I love visiting the portal world that opens up for these special kids. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the twins chosen reality and learning more of their backstory, especially after the events of book 1.
I may reread Every Heart a Doorway before continuing on with this wacky series. Nonetheless, I look forward to discovering more doorways and exploring more within this universe.

The relationship between Jill and The Master is unnerving; it is posed as “father / daughter” but seems deeper than that.catology's review
