What the hell did I just read? This is barely coherent. But it's somehow not uninteresting, so I did finish it. Jaron Lanier is clearly a smart guy but he needs a ghostwriter.

Abandoned for now as I've declined to return to it for some time.

A good read for those interested in understanding how technology intersects with humanity. It is a great read if you already have some knowledge of computing technologies and music. Both are discussed and having a background in both made it a fantastic read.

essential internet reading.  its kind of insane for a tech bro to have an "are we the baddies" moment so early on and then accurately predict everything that was to happen like it kind of makes me lose my mind

occasionally he goes a little off the tracks (mostly because I think he has a different conception of what quality cultural products are) but has a lot of great points of crowd-sourcing, the cloud, and a general wariness of the "everything all the time" sort of attitude with digital products..

Interesting ideas, interesting fellow, the essays are disjoint and often difficult to read. It seems like these are stream of conscious concerns with suggestions for change, but not enough focus for anyone to act on the proposals.

I’d like to come back to this one eventually, just wasn’t in the right mood.
