This is a difficult book to review because of its form. First you have the translating and editing, which have been done well, I think. The main topic of conversation between Vattimo and Girard is clear and occurs in every chapter of the book. Pierpaolo Antonello does a good job introducing the book and the way it is laid out makes for a comfortable read: the more introductory dialogues at the beginning of the book, with it ending with two more complex essays by the thinkers.

Reading the dialogues was sometimes a bit hard because (with chapter one being an exception) René Girards answers aren't clearly structured and too relevant to the main problems proposed by Gianni Vattimo. It does however give an insight into the thought of Girard, and his (poor) style of writing.

Vattimo is clearly more philosophically gifted than Girard. His arguments are more concise, more structured and seem more educated, while Girard is more 'French' if you will. This really bothered me as well in the last essay, which felt more like a draft than an essay, and which was barely more clear than his answers in the dialogues.

It was however a good read because of its style, a nice way of tasting the differences between these thinkers and who both know how to make it relevant. They introduce their ideas in an understandable way without being to complex, and I will need to go back to it to see with whom I agree more. However, in Girard's style I would say: "Vattimo has the upperhand in almost all cases, and this intuition is shared by everyone, so it must be true." ;)
