This series remind me of Hunter by mercedes lackey, monsters fill the world except the safe cities and famous celebrity-like fighters have to protect the city. While Hunter had more action, the characters were quite uninteresting. In this series, I feel like there’s more focus on fleshing out the characters and that is the reason why I continued this series and not Hunter. While the plot was very repetitive and kept swinging back and fort without a conclusion or breakthrough, I liked the ending. It just didn’t need that many pages.

Book one was ok, but book two didn't reel me in.

**I received an ARC for this book

Actual rating: 2.5-3 stars.

There were so many things about this book that was disappointing. I enjoyed the last book because of the author's world building, and the premise. However, so many things just fell through the cracks, and I wound up disappointed - despite the cliffhanger (which I hate).

The four girls were just meh, there was nothing gripping to me about them. There was no character growth at all, and they were very all one dimensional. Not only that, but I really felt that they were just incredibly childish in their reactions. I mean, it's the middle of the second book and Lake is still incredibly scared about going out to fight? She had minor character growth in the last book and I feel like she just took a huge step back.

It was also all tell and very little show. Raughley let the conversation between the characters dictate the pace of the book, and the majority of the time the characters info-dumped everything in the conversations.

Despite all of that,, I'll still be reading the next book to find out what happens. I enjoyed most of it, it wasn't a challenging read and enjoyable enough for me to pass the time. I absolutely loathe the cliffhanger at the end. I just can't ... ugh, so upset that it ended there.

DNF at 30%. This is poorly written and I just can't seem to care about any of the characters. The dialogue is cringe and the main character is annoying and unlikable. The story and concept is good I just can't get behind a story if I don't care about the cast

This book was great. Maia, Chea, Lake and Bell are all bad as* Effigies. The Phantoms be getting on my nerves. Saul needs to quit his lil tantrum and just die. So does everyone who stands with him. The Sec can just back the hell up for the Effigies. And Rhys, honey, I love you so much. I want to know more about Rhys and his past.

And the cliffhanger I hated. Like how could the author end it like that. Now I have to buy the 3rd books cause I needs to know what happens.

"PACIFIC RIM meets the AVENGERS with a SAILOR MOON cast" by Sarah Roughly

When I first read that last year, I snatched the first book and devoured it... it was really good and held a lot of potential. Unfortunately for me they weren't met in this next installment.

It was too messy, a lot was going on, no moment of rest to understand everything, you got information coming out ou way you don't know why, what, where, when ... It was nice to be back with the 4 Effigies but I am a little disappointed with the outcome ...

Will see with the third book how everything is settled ...

I sorry WHAT

The whole do tell don’t tell was drawn out a little too much for me. Like if only people would just have hard conversations with each other (yes I am a hypocrite bc I hate them)!!!! Still don’t love this Romance bc there is nothing there and it feels like their feelings have come out of nowhere. But those last 40ish pages were beyond wack. I genuinely have no idea what’s going on but not in a bad way?

I feel like I was left with such mixed feelings after the first book and this one. But it’s been mostly entertaining so I guess it’s a win
