A Better Heart by Chuck Augello is devastating, funny and heartbreaking all in one! The things people are willing to do to an animal is just appalling. The one thing that I really enjoyed was how realistic the characters and events felt! I really enjoyed all of the characters! I think most people will the author had made the characters easy to realate to in many different ways. And yes I'm talking about Henry the monkey as well! I enjoyed the book! It touches on a subject that should have more light shined on it but it also has heartwarming and laugh out loud moments! And Chuck Augello does a wonderful job balancing them!

Thank you Suzy Approved Book Tours, Chuck Augello and Black Rose Writing for my gifted copy and for having me on this tour!

This family drama story takes place in a five-part story which is told in two separate times. We are taken on A family adventure that covers the sensitive subject of animal rights.
Kevin whose a filmmaker has his entire world turned upside down when his distant father appears at his door, bringing along a wife and a capuchin monkey named Henry. Soon it’s revealed that the monkey was stolen from a vivisection lab and is on the FBI’s most wanted list. Kevin soon learns about all the suffering that takes place at the animal labs and and he becomes closer to Henry the monkey. With the FBI getting closer Kevin finds himself wondering, if losing his film career and possibly his fathers freedom worth the risk?

Actors say never work with an animal because they steal the scene. Well the same thing can be said for animals in books. The rescued capuchin monkey Henry just stole my heart. I liked that this story also included animal abuse and rights. A Better Heart is the perfect title as the characters learn about forgiveness not only between father and son but forgiving themselves

Indie filmmaker Kevin Stacey’s life is turned upside-down when his absent father suddenly turns up at his door with a new wife and a Capuchin monkey in tow.

The monkey it seems was stolen from a vivisection lab and is on the FBI’s most wanted list.

Told in two separate time periods from the points of view of Kevin and his girlfriend this has an interesting plot and is well written and easy to read. The main characters are nicely rounded and you find yourself rooting for them.

There are a couple of plot points that seem superfluous to the overall story (pregnancy & cat-woman) but they don’t detract from the storytelling.

Written with a clear anti-vivisection message the author blends this with an interesting father/son bonding theme that moves along at a good pace and holds the readers interest right to the end
