When I started reading this my first reaction was surprise at how funny it was -- the structure reminded me of standup comedy, almost, with every seven lines ending in a punchline. I found it really entertaining about up to the point where Juan ends up in the war, and then it started to go off on more tangents and lose the storyline and it took me a long time to pick it back up and finish reading.

Also, I read the Project Gutenberg version but I'd like to reread it in an edition with footnotes so I could pick up on the more obscure allusions and name-dropping, because there was so much of that.
