This book has a great story line and I loved following Leon and his family throughout the plague and seeing how they reacted to different scenarios. There were parts of the book that were a little gorier than I like to read but other than that it was a good read.

Two words sum up my feelings for this book: Shock. Value.
And that’s really about it.
All of the characters felt one-dimensional and based in some kind of over-the-top stereotype. Even with some of the tragic events that occurred for some of them, I just didn’t feel really emotion for or towards them. Kinda made it difficult to keep reading since I felt there was not going to be any real character development.
Besides that, the “science” behind the plague was something else entirely. At times, I was willing to believe it, and then in other times it just became too ridiculous to try. Especially towards the end...
The twists and turns? Something straight out of a B-Rated Sci-Fi Horror film. Take that as you will.
Overall, it’s a one-time read for me.

I devoured this book so quickly. Its a very fast paced and quick read. So much tension and suspense. I couldn't put it down. I thought this was going to be another typical "virus wipes the world clean and civilization starts from scratch" type of apocalypse book but I got a whole different story than I was expecting. Quickly turned into a horror/thriller. An intelligent virus that can think for itself, strategize logically, and adapt and CREATE life from basic chemicals it absorbed from its victims is a frightening thought.
Definitely worth the read and I'll be picking up the sequel as soon as I can.

Plague Land is very different from all other post apocalyptic books I’ve read before. I love how the virus evolves!

I was given the opportunity to read this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Seeing how this was a interesting sounding post-apocalyptic story I knew I had to give it a shot. I'm really glad that I did.
The story starts out in England with the siblings of a recently divorced mother starting over in England after growing up in the United States. Leon is not having an easy time fitting in to his new school but he was always somewhat of an outsider. His younger sister Grace, on the other hand has no problems quickly becoming the new popular girl in school.
Leon sees a story about a virus starting in Africa and quickly becomes obsessed with following the story. Quite quickly they find out that this virus is quickly spiraling out of control as it liquefies it's victims in less than an hour. Leon's father calls from New York to tell them that the virus is airborne and they have to get out of the city as quickly as possible. While they flee the city via train they find out that the virus has already gotten onto the train and is quickly killing everyone.
We also find out that the virus is intelligent and is gathering the DNA to try to reproduce the lifeforms it has been killing. You can tell the virus is quickly developing into something that actually functions like regular life forms on Earth.
Without giving away any spoilers I found that the story line was unique and engaging. The way the survivors have survived the plague is quiet surprising and the ending leaves with a huge cliffhanger. I am very much looking forward to the next book.

Ok I finished this in less then 24 hours! Would’ve been one sitting if I didn’t have to ADULT! This book was amazing, I loved the take one a virus epidemic. Very unique to me and great pace! Creepy in some parts, and gruesome in others! I already got book two on my lap ready to start!
