Despite being somewhat derivative of Tolkien in many ways, this is simply an outstanding adventure fantasy novel. I became much more invested in the characters compared with the first novel and cannot wait to read the conclusion to the series.

Icewind Dale trilogy Book #2, part of the Legend of Drizzt series #5
Adventure Fantasy
This was a really good, classic adventure fantasy. A party going on a quest, meeting monsters and possible friendlies along the way. They are being followed and chased by some bad guys/girls. Fairly fast-paced and a good balance of the journey, outside the party characters and fighting action.

Artemis Entreri is a nifty villain, to be sure, but I wonder at how he is able to be as good as Drizzt. He hasn't spent nearly as long learning as Drizzt has, yet he is his equal?

Anyway, I loved this story. The entire series is like candy, to me. It's fun to read and I'm not expecting much more than that which is why I can enjoy it without worrying overly about what it says about good and evil, or any racism that people are seeing.
