Marie Howalt's worlds and words never fail to blow me away. It is a pure joy to read their books, and Seeking Shelter is no exception.

Following up on "We Lost the Sky", this second part of the Moonless trilogy takes the cast into the early months of their building of a new community in the ruins of Sienna. While the first book saw the characters realize what they needed was each other, this book seems them take their found family to a new level: A society. Dust storms, predators, illness, and human needs all test them. Not to mention the discovery of another enclave of humans with pre-moon destruction technology. All of this makes the Siennans question not only who they are as individuals, but who they want to be s a community.

"Seeking Shelter" takes the seeds planted in "We Lost the Sky" and watches them grow and their roots probe the well built-world around them. Post-Moon Sienna feels like a real place, as much a character as Marco, Esmia, Luca, Renn, or Teo. Howalt proves with this that the Moonless world may look arid and barren, but it is fertile with the possibility of stories, and I for one cannot wait for a third trip there.

The stories of a wanderer, a "reborn" engineer, and a politician's daughter (as well as some important side characters) come together and interweave - because not everything in Florence is as perfect as it may seem...
The second book is again told from multiple points of view - love it! - in third-person narration. For me, the difference of the protagonists was also mirrored in the writing style, so that each of their chapters had a different feel to them.
I liked this instalment in the series even better than the first. It was fast-paced, plot-driven, full of action, and presented some new challenges to our "heroes". It was sometimes so suspenseful that I felt a slight sense of dread, and then inwardly debated if I should continue, because I wanted to know what was going to happen, or if I should take a reading break
