This is one of those books that isn’t really about anything, but is actually about everything. Makes me want to go to the English countryside.

"At last, curling on her side with her knees up, she descended the ceremonial staircase of her sleep, shedding a heavy cloak on the steps behind her, unpinning the dark rivers of her hair, which fell in her dream all the way down her back to the floor."

I just keep reading quiet, thoughtful books about regular people lately. Nothing major happens, but it's somehow engaging.

A Well-Written Character Study

The Past was more an extended character study of several family members than a plot-driven novel. In fact, I would say there was very little plot at all. The writing was beautiful but, to me, not necessarily engaging. Glad I took the time to read but not sure I'll be returning for additional books from Hadley.

Just couldn't get into it. Charachters weren't interesting & I didn't care about them.
