4.5 rounded down. I didn't know what I expected going into this book but it wasn't necessarily what I read. It's a mystery but also somewhat of a drama with some humor sprinkled in. I ended up liking it more than I thought I would even though it started off a little slow for me. It's definitely not a fast-paced plot but the characters and humor made up for that for me.

5 Stars from me

So good!

If Exiteers aren't a thing then they totally should be.

I loved this book from start to finish, it is beautifully sharp and funny in all the right places.

I found the characters to be engaging and I simply couldn't read the book fast enough - I raced through the pages needing to find out what happens to Felix.

Great story, great ending, highly recommended.

One part Arthur Dent’s fate if the Hyperspace Bypass Project had died in committee, one part Kinda Shawshank Redemption, one part meticulously plotted Mary Higgins Clark? Compelling enough to finish because I liked the main character, but tonally uneven enough that I didn’t realize for a while that it was supposed to be comedic? I think? Ending was a little glib.

The story starts with what was supposed to be a job for Felix, a 75 year old widow and Exiteer and his new partner, a young girl called Amanda. The exiteers where employed to sit with people who where dying. Only this job goes horribly wrong and Felix and Amanda find themselves in deep trouble.

Felix wants to hand himself in to the police but then he thinks of his poor dog and on impulse he runs off. This leaves the police in confusion as they start investigating what happened in the house that day.

The story is full of little sub plots and lots of new characters to get your head around. It can be a bit complicated at times but Belinda Bauer’s writing is so clever and it’s all carefully bound up into a neat ending.

I loved Felix, he was an amazing character and so well described in everything he did. Some of the other characters were extremely likeable too and other’s not so likeable but they were not supposed to be.

I guessed right from the start who the culprit was, but I couldn’t figure out why until it was explained. There were some obvious developments and some less obvious ones but it all made for a real interesting story.

I really enjoyed Belinda Bauer’s style of writing and her mixture of fun and disaster, even a little violence and few deaths along the way.

Excellent! Very fun, clever and humorous mystery. I totally enjoyed it.

I listened to the audiobook (and got a little distracted at times, hate when that happens!). This was cleverly done with lots of layers to the mystery. The writing was witty and enjoyable descriptive. (Would love to see what a woman with sensible eyebrows looks like!). The story line is less about the "exiteers" and more about a mystery and possible corruption.

This was a wonderful book. Great characters, a great plot which starts out tragic, but turned into a wonderfully twisty mystery. I listened to this and the reader, Rupert Degas, was excellent.

This book is about a man named Felix, who volunteers for a company that goes to peoples houses to sit with them whilst they die, also known as euthanasia. These volunteers don’t actually touch the resident but are there to provide them with support during their last breaths. Felix and his partner Amanda go to provide a person with euthanasia when they discover they’ve “killed” the wrong man.

This book isn’t like anything i’ve read before. It did feel authentic but reminded me of certain dystopian traits. It wasn’t something I’d probably read again. The thing that did keep me enticed was the fact that it was a crime novel and towards the end it did get fast paced.

The thing I most enjoyed about this book was the characters Felix and his neighbour. I found that they should have been explored further. I did also enjoy Felix’s personality traits and found that they were counterbalanced by his neighbour.

What I disliked about the book, was that it was very mundane. The chapters merged in altogether, making it sometimes impossible to keep up with what was happening. I also found the discovery part a bit hard to comprehend. I don’t know if that was a personal reason because I may have been tired or if it just lacked enticement.

Overall, I wouldn’t read this again, however, if it was portrayed as movie, I possibly would as I’d like to see it being acted out.
