It started off so fucking good and promising and then we switched to Savannah's POV and it turned into one giant shitshow of what the actual fuck did I read?!?!

Ngl I was curious and did kind of enjoy myself but I'm still not quite sure what I just read

man do i love weirdo freak psychosexual cosmic horror... and this delivered on that completely and wholeheartedly! really fun gory (AND SAPPHIC!!!!!!) read lol. i love the association of octopi or ancient sea creatures with incomprehensible eldritch beings. but some of the language choices are ummm... well... questionable to say the least especially because the author isn't a person of colour (as far as i know)

A wild, weird and horrorifying journey with queer representation.

My main complaint is the almost identical narrative voices across all three characters. They all have the same political views and frustrations. I realize these are probably the author's opinions. It comes across as the author agreeing with those political beliefs, which is confusing when the characters do terrible things (is she condoning only the political beliefs and not personal ones?). It seems like this was a short story (or several) the author wanted to expand upon, however, it never wraps up those plots individually or together, so it feels like aspects are left in the air.

I did enjoy reading this absolutely unearthly story and may return to it in the future, it just felt tonally the same across all characters and lacked an actual ending.

Picked this up on cover alone and boy howdy was I not disappointed. I really don’t even what to say much about this because being 100% blind is the way to go. Be prepared for body horror and be disgusted.

If the covid allegory or identity politics rants in the beginning bum you out keep pushing through. This book sheds its boiler plate sci-fi pandemic allegory and moves to something horrific and amazing. One of my favorite reads of the year.
