Things are heating up as the Wardstone Chronicles come to a conclusion. The Spook's Blood is possibly the darkest and scariest book in the series.

After not finishing the previous book in the series (which was written from Grimalkin, the witch assassin's point of view) my faith is restored after reading this.

The story is back to Tom Ward's point of view as we travel with him to defeat the dark. I was a little worried to begin with because it was a bit slow, but soon things picked up and the spooky things began.

It was weird when I found out the evil servants of the dark in this book were called Strigoi & Strigoica (they are Romanian vampiric demons, one male & the other female) because Strigoi are the evil vampires in the "Vampire Academy" series. Then I noticed these evil servants used Moroi (which are vampiric elemental spirits that possess animals) as their guardians and Moroi are also in the "Vampire Academy" series, they are the good vampires. I am so used to those names mentioned in that series and it was weird to see them mentioned here, but totally different!

I really enjoyed this and it'll be sad when the series ends. There are only 3 more books left and two of those are from other characters point of view so I hope they are better than Grimalkin's Tale.

My final question is: Will they defeat the fiend??!!

This book brought a real sense of jeopardy to the quest against the dark. The twists in it kept me guessing, and the introduction of Romanian culture - as with Irish culture before - brought some interesting new lore to the series. This was the first book in the series where I reeeeeaaally felt things were unsure.

Not sure why I keep reading these, as they kind of annoy me, but I also kind of enjoy them--the plot and all the evil creatures are well done, I just find the protagonist irritating (and I can't ever remember his name). I am glad to hear, however, that we can only expect a couple more books, as I don't have that much more patience. I'm amazed by how little the story actually moves ahead in each book.
