Though I did like this book, Robert was basically barassing Victoria xD didn't really like that part, like she didn't have any choice in the matter.

Other than that, a classic sweet Julia Quinn book.

Victoria is the Vicar's Daughter and Robert is the Earl of Macclesfield they fall in love but after their families intervene are forced to part.

This was a rollercoaster of a story with lots of twists and turns. The character development was vast and I empathised with them. The narrator was good and easy to follow. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

this book.... did not age particularly well. i liked the big trope in this (essentially a second chance romance, which is one of my faves) but the way it's been executed.... uhm, stupid and boring and quite tiring (
Spoilerthere's also like.... three attempted rapes on the main character and by the second one i was already so fucking tired
)
however, there's truly no one that writes angry men and banter quite like quinn and this was extremely fast to read, so extra points for that. the dialogues are delicious.

I felt like this misunderstanding could have been resolved quicker and it was annoying at times. But I really like everything (and the moon) Julia Quinn writes.

Up until Chapter 11, I was head over heels madly in love with this book. The young couple who were so madly in love with each other but torn apart by a misunderstanding (on both ends)... tragic! Then seeing them meet up again 7 years later only to have him break her heart a second time... and then he finds out the truth?! GAH! It was amazing. The stuff legendary romance is made of! I laughed, I even teared up a bit!

Then we got to chapter 11.

I was curious how she was going to fill 200 or so more pages when we got to this point, and I felt really let down. I really didn't like how the guy forced his attentions on her, and I really hated what he ultimately did to 'catch' her. The blame wasn't all his though - I couldn't wrap my head around why the heroine was so sure she didn't want him. Wouldn't even consider him. Yeah, I get that her heart was broken by him, and yes there is a great line about him giving her the moon then pushing her off of it... still. It didn't quite fit for me.

There are some parts I really did NOT like... I can't say more without spoiling so just imagine me with a death glare and steam from my ears.

It ended up ok in the end I guess, but I never felt like I understood fully the 'why'. Ah well, I still adore Julia Quinn and will continue my path through her back-list of titles.

Must be one of her first works as it is not nearly as polished or well written as her other series. I suggest fans skip it.

THIS BOOK PISSED ME OFF
Love at first sight? Incredibly unrealistic but fine.
Miscommunication trope? Incredible overused.
Forget the whole love at first sight stuff, it was the fact that at every turn, she would tell him she needed her own agency and he would be like “nah screw that, I’m going to kidnap you and make you marry me”
And from the very beginning this man was so incredibly horny he just kept pushing and pushing the limits continuously?
And don’t let me forget how he pouted because she didn’t want to have sex, ended up taking a cold dip in the lake and nearly KILLED THEM BOTH.
Genuinely did not like him. He was so unlikeable and at every point I was rooting for her to find someone else, or hell, enjoy her life alone
