i had no idea the original story is by fitzgerald.

i went into this having no idea what i was expecting and honestly.... very mixed feelings. the concept could have been so good, i just feel like it wasn't developed enough to have really made an impact for me. there were just some things that really bothered me. racial slurs, the lack of explanation for his mother's absence (i'm sure she passed birthing him but like, i wish we knew this from the beginning), the rudeness of his father and son. i do like the instances where at the beginning of each chapter we learned about how he was dealing with the new differences that have come into his life and the concerns.

overall, not terrible. super overhyped. good concept.
