The first time I read this book I was at my best friends house. I fell in love with the funny poems, and later on after having kids I had to buy it for myself. My daughter used to love listening to some of these poems!

Quite a hilarious assortment of poems. I found a few that weren't quite funny though and might not fit a child's nature...

Another book that made admire him more, Shel Silverstein, he is such a creative person, he writes a fictional story with a lot of lessons to teach us.
I have really enjoyed this book, not to mention the humor that he added nicely in there.. :)

ZEBRA QUESTION

"I asked the zebra,
Are you black with white stripes?
Or white with black stripes?
And the zebra asked me,
Are you good with bad habits?
Or are you bad with good habits?
Are you noisy with quiet times?
Or are you quiet with noisy times?
Are you happy with some sad days?
Or are you sad with some happy days?
Are you neat with some sloppy ways?
Or are you sloppy with some neat ways?
And on and on and on and on
And on and on he went.
I'll never ask a zebra
About stripes
Again."

I read this several times as a kid and then with my oldest. It's a corky fun read.

Silvestein's poems are so whimsical, jolly and imaginative. Here's my favorite poem from this book.

Last night, while I lay thinking here,
some Whatifs crawled inside my ear
and pranced and partied all night long
and sang their same old Whatif song:

Whatif I'm dumb in school?
Whatif they've closed the swimming pool?
Whatif I get beat up?
Whatif there's poison in my cup?
Whatif I start to cry?
Whatif I get sick and die?
Whatif I flunk that test?
Whatif green hair grows on my chest?
Whatif nobody likes me?
Whatif a bolt of lightning strikes me?
Whatif I don't grow taller?
Whatif my head starts getting smaller?
Whatif the fish won't bite?
Whatif the wind tears up my kite?
Whatif they start a war?
Whatif my parents get divorced?
Whatif the bus is late?
Whatif my teeth don't grow in straight?
Whatif I tear my pants?
Whatif I never learn to dance?

Everything seems well, and then
the nighttime Whatifs strike again!
