The slow burn was too slow for my linking and I didn't really like the pov switching (or the narrator voices).

This didn’t really work for me. A lot of the reason why is in the blurb—reading this book made me realize that boss romances really aren’t for me. Going into this, I didn’t realize that there’s a significant age gap as well. The power imbalance just felt a little icky to me.

I also had a significant issue with the pacing. While I liked that this book took place over many months, it made how much of a slow burn this book is feel less realistic.
Especially as the focus is on them getting together and we don’t get to spend any time with them as a couple.
If you like slow burns, I might recommend this, as it’s one of the slowest burns I’ve read.
Their first (purposeful) kiss happens with like 2 chapters left in the book. However, the book ends with a full-blown sex scene, which I didn’t mind, but just felt out of place with how chaste the rest of the book was.

I read the iconic book that Meryl wrote in 2023 “mistakes were made” that had me clutching my pearls every 5 seconds because of how many times the characters jumped each other’s bones lol so this one was a bit more subdued and slow burn. The payoff is always the best part! Because you have all this pining and tension and it feels like it’s going to break and then it does a fake out where the character has seconds thoughts. It was so well done! And the way Jo admits in the beginning of the book that she’s in love with her assistant and doesn’t say something until like the second to last chapter or so was just cruel! It kept me hanging on tho!

Didn’t feel like the boss really liked her even with her pov. C’etait comme si une jour au lendemain elle l’aimait.

It’s not that the writing or plot were not enjoyable, I just find the characters flat and the chemistry off for the majority of the book. We only get a glimpse of them in the last 10-20%, which made me not care about the relationship at all and find the pacing flat. I found Jo’s character unlikeable for 3/4 of the book and Emma’s character plain. The miscommunication was not in service of their development and that just made it frustrating, it also felt repetitive.
However, I really enjoyed the women’s movement aspect. The jewish and asian representation and, of course, the queerness of it all.
Just not the book for me.
