i really love Meryl Wilsner’s writing. they know how to write such fleshed out characters,
and holy shit can they pull off a slow burn. i definitely have some hang ups with the age gap/authority discrepancy that gets played up in their novels, but for the most part i can take the romance in their books to heart.

since i listened to the audiobook i wanna say i loved the readers so much too - Jorjeana Marie and Xe Sands are amazing!!

I truly should have DNF'd this book but I was so far through I decided to power through. If you want a boss/assistant relationship this book is not for you. If you want fake dating or a secret relationship this book is not for you. If you want a slow burn this book is not for you, because in order for it to be a slow burn something needs to be burning!!! I enjoyed the first quarter of the book because the premise is interesting and it felt like something was building, and then the pacing totally fell apart. The story stuttered with so many different sub plots and unreasonable obstacles for the protagonists. As others have said the side characters were more compelling than the protagonists.
The sex scene at the very end was SO out of place
The writing wasn't overly awful and there was a good idea somewhere, thus the 2.5 stars.

Cute, sapphic, handled the age gap and power dynamic really well. Didn’t blow me away but definitely delivered on the slowburn and friends-to-lovers/coworkers-to-lovers fronts. Jo and Emma were both good and interesting characters, and I definitely rooted for their romance. Excited for the author’s next book, which I have gathered is going to be very opposite from this one in a lot of ways!
