Such a cute story! It's a little like the Hobbit, but the Goblin is the good guy, and it's written for little bitty humans. :)

I'm reading my way through the 2016 Goodreads best picture book nominees with my boys and this one definitely held their attention. It's sort of a Dungeons and Dragons tale told from the point of view of a goblin and has themes of friendship and overcoming adversity.

I read this to my husband who also likes D&D and we both agreed it was a very cute story from the other side of a dungeon crawl!

A wonderfully unusual story with plenty to entertain adults and children alike. Sometimes, the bad guys aren't the villains, and Goblin is hoping this time he'll be able to win the day, and save his friend.

The water artwork in this book is amazing! I flipped through this a second time to enjoy the backgrounds like the sunset and the trees that slowly fade out in the background. I feel if you really love fantasy or play D&D you're really going to love this book like I did! It features classic situations you'd come across in a silly D&D game and make the adventurers out to be the jerks against poor monsters. I didn't really notice the adventurers also stole a woman?! Don't worry Goblin saves her in the end (I didn't see her the first time till the end so I was confused where she came from. I flipped back and she was on the cart! This book has a eye for some detail) Really awesome book! ~Ashley

I rarely attach star ratings to a book, but I feel like I'll come up short if I try to articulate how much this story and the illustrations captured my heart. Ben Hatke uses "india ink, Sakura Micron pens, watercolors, and assorted brushes on Arches 140lb hot press watercolor medium". The overall effect is enchanting and warming and wonderful. I don't want to give too much away, so I'll just write something vague: Goblin's life is turned upside down one day when adventurers intrude upon his humble abode. And so begins "Nobody Likes a Troll".
