There's a magic when reading a collection of poems that are not only beautiful but truly strike a note within yourself. I've found that with Kaplan's collection In the Ice House.

The poems have an icy sheen to them that speaks to loneliness and the need to escape. But underneath all that ice and domestic life and ordinary landscapes full of birds, is a heat that just waiting to come and melt the ice. There's energy contained within the poems. Energy that only needs a few lines to be expressed.

I absolutely loved this collection and will be looking for more work by Kaplan.
