not my favorite -- either i'm not a fan of GGM's writing style or the translation is tooooo antiquated. the subject matter was very one dimensional, and i found myself wanting the (narrator) to get the hell on with the report/recountment of of the event; as a matter of impatience. the greatest feeling i have is i can now check Gabrielle Garcia Marquez off my list of writers to check out.

Like an extended story from one of the many such wonderful ones in One Hundred Years or Solitude, a joyously written murder tale on a town’s complicity, astounding inaction and fated coincidence.
